Wednesday, June 21 — 7:00PM
Union Hall, Newfane Village
Many of us have enjoyed the old photographs from the Porter Thayer collection over the years, but this will be the first time many of these photographs will be viewed in modern times. Bill Thayer has loaned the photo committee of the Wardsboro History Group hundreds of old glass plates from the work of Porter Thayer that have been in storage for decades—generations even. The plates are being catalogued and developed for the first time since Porter Thayer processed them himself. The photo committee of the Wardsboro History Group has been diligently cataloging and developing old glass plates and negatives for many years and this slide presentation will include photographs by not only Porter Thayer but also other well known photographers who documented the County’s history in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The photo committee, Bob and Janet LeBlond, Danny Hescock, Charlie Marchant, Jane Robinson, Carol Besette, Lester Dunklee and Jan Hull, meets one night a week and spends several hours processing, discussing, and identifying old photos of the area. During the slide show of old photographs, the committee welcomes members of the audience to share their personal knowledge about the scenes and faces in the images.
